Who Does What

Clarifying roles in our camping context:

Campground Board

Responsible for long-term facilities, major repairs, and site-specific policies. Sets rental rates. In conjunction with mission center, schedules camps prioritizing Community of Christ camps over external camps and campground use agreements. Oversees caretaker or site manager.

Caretaker / Site Manager

Day-to-day maintenance and on-site support. Emergency repairs during camp. Site orientation and key management.

Mission Centre

Organizes camps on 3 year rotating schedule. Provides training, support, resources, and oversight for camping programs. Recruits camp directors. Hires seasonal staff. Arranges guest ministry. Manages youth/ vulnerable persons worker screening and background checks (see Appendix D and Forms & Documents). Coordinates across camps and shares best practices. Establishes and maintains appropriate registration and camping records system protecting privacy of individuals.

Business Services Committee of Community of Christ Board in Canada

Sets procedures for child protection, insurance, and risk management and recommends policies to the Canadian Corporation Board.

Camp Director

Responsible for planning and executing the specific camp event. Implements their inspired vision of creating camping space. Ensures compliance with Mission Centre policies, procedures, campground rules, and regulations. Manages budget, staffing, program, and safety during camp. Act as servant ministers at camp by responding to tasks and concerns.

CMC Camping Council (Vonda, August 2026)

The camping council provides support and guidance for the camping programs in Canada. The focus is to help the Mission Centre camping team create a vision for the future, provide guidance and support, and uphold policies and procedures.

Council Membership Requirements

Council members should be: active in congregational / camping life; Registered PAL; on staff at a camp for at least 3 years; preferably not a current camp director; and respected among camp leaders.

Role of Camping Council Members

Offer ministry of vision to help sustain and grow the future of our camping programs. Help create and uphold policies for camping programs. Assist in planning for, and participate in, Camping Summits. Assist CMC staff in recruiting camp directors for the areas they represent. Assist in making youth camping decisions for the campground area they represent. Advocate Registered PAL and risk management guidelines. Assist in the planning for, and participate in, annual training for camping staff.

Council Composition

Canada Mission Centre Camping staff. One representative each from Samish Island and McGowan's Lake campgrounds. Two representatives each from Erie Beach, Hills of Peace, Noronto, and Ziontario campgrounds. Possible additional representation from business managers and first aid staff.
