11. Communications & Marketing
GROWTH MINDSET: Marketing is not selling. It's inviting people into transformation. Every promotion is an act of ministry.
---
11.1 Promotion Basics
Directors ensure: Camp name, dates, location, and age groups are clear. Registration link and contact information are easy to find (see Section 7 β Registration Systems). Promotional material is sent to: Mission Centre, communications@communityofchrist.ca, website, facebook, congregations and pastors, email lists, social media channels.
GROWTH TACTIC: Create a simple one-page flyer (PDF and printable). Include: compelling photo from last year, camp dates, one testimonial quote, registration link, subsidy info. Distribute everywhere.
---
11.1.1 Information Needed for Website and Registration Form
When preparing your camp promotion, provide the following information for the website and registration form: Name of camp. Date of camp (providing arrival and departure times is helpful). Age range or intended audience. Theme and/or scripture focus. Registration fee (early bird rate, regular rate, family rate, etc.). Deadline(s) for registration. Payment method and instructions. Cancellation policy. Capacity limits (if applicable). Key leadership contact information. Website URL (if applicable).
11.2 Offers & Incentives
Examples that work: Early bird discounts. "Bring-a-friend" discounts. "Bring a carload" discounts. Sibling discounts.
Always include: A call to register. An option to donate to help others attend.
GROWTH TACTIC: "Sponsor a Camper" campaign. Invite donors to fund specific spots. Share stories of impact (with permission). Creates emotional connection and increases subsidy pool.
---
11.3 Storytelling & Follow-Up
At and After camp: Share photos and stories (with appropriate permissions). Highlight spiritual moments, friendships, and growth. Use these stories to promote next year's camps and encourage support. Have other camps deliver top 10 reasons to attend at camp.
GROWTH TACTIC: Video testimonials. Record 30-second clips of campers saying what camp meant to them. Parents trust other parents. Peers trust peers.
---
11.4 Digital Communication & Social Media
During camp:
Set and communicate a clear cell phone policy for campers and staff. Consider a social media or video log elective to promote the Camp and Campgrounds. Prohibit staff from taking or sharing photos of campers on personal accounts without explicit photo release. Ensure any official camp social media posts follow photo/consent policies. Do not livestream activities that include minors without explicit prior permission from Mission Centre.
After camp:
Staff do not initiate private one-on-one social media or messaging relationships with minors they met at camp. If online groups are created for follow-up (e.g., youth group chat), they must include at least two screened adults. Photos and stories shared in newsletters or online must respect consent forms and never shame or embarrass campers.
GROWTH TACTIC: Create a private Facebook group or WhatsApp group for camp families. Share photos, updates, reminders. Builds community year-round and increases retention.
---
11.5 Cell Phone & Music Policy
Recommended policy: Campers turn in cell phones at check-in. Phones stored securely and returned at departure. Emergency calls handled through camp staff. Staff phones allowed for camp business onlyβnot personal social media during programming.
Music policy: Use appropriate, licensed music for worship and activities (see Appendix B for licensing). Staff curate playlists in advanceβavoid explicit content or lyrics inappropriate for age group. There is enough music to find contemporary theme support.
